In 2005, the first Girls’ Little League National Tournament was played and took place on Saturday 14th May and was organised by West Sutton LLF and sponsored by Ideal Standard Bathrooms.
All games we played at Cheam Recreation Ground, in which eleven teams entered. The tournament saw the return of ex-Morden LLF player Casey Stoney had spent most of the day with us and presented the trophies. There were also players from the Chelsea Ladies squad who kindly came along to the tournament.
2007 saw the introduction of 11-a-side football for the girl’s Nationals, the format continued with a 7-a-side competition re-introduced in 2009. The tournament ran until 2012 when this was the first season when it was cancelled due to a lack of participants. The National Girls Tournament 2013 could not take place for the second season, however, our younger girls took part in a festival of football at Goals, Sutton. All of the teams played in a sporting manner toward each other and the match officials. At the end of the day, each team played each other and every player received a trophy.
The present format of this National Tournament is two competitions which are run simultaneously, a senior and junior section. The seniors play an 11-a-side format and juniors play a 7-a-side format.
